Pashupatinath is one of the largest and most revered temples of the Hindu Lord Shiva. The temple is located in Kathmandu, not too far from the Boudhanath Stupa.

When Visiting Pashupatinath, the best view for most tourists will be from on top of the river bank opposite the temple, as only hindus or believers in the god Pashupatinath are allowed to enter the temple building.

Sadhus can be seen in the temple area, religious holy men who practice meditation and yoga. Sadhus live a rugged life detached from common luxuries aiming the reach Moksha, the hindu concept of enlightenment comparable to Nirvana.

By the river, hindu cremation rituals take place with over 35 cremations on some days. As Pashupatinath is the holiest hindu site in Kathmandu, it is seen as an honor for Nepali families to say good bye to their loved ones at the temple.

Pashupatinath is a hub of religious activity. Havanam ceremonies, a hindu fire ceremony that symbolizes sacrifice to the fire god Agni can be seen taking place outside of the main temple building. Sacrifice of objects such as fruit or honey are made with the belief the sacrifice will bring prosperity.
