Video Transcript

Lumbini is the birth place of Buddha and one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the world. Today, the streets of Lumbini are sleepy, the town still undeveloped with only a few small lodges on the main street.

Many visitors to Lumbini choose to stay in dormitories located in the monasteries. One popular location is the Korean temple which accepts travelers to stay in its basic dormitory facilities for the price of a donation.

From the main street you enter the temple area from through the main gate. The easiest way to get around is by rickshaw. It is possible to walk but the distance between all of the sites is quite long.

As your journey begins you first see the large lake at the center of the complex.

Nearby you locate the most important site in Lumbini. The exact location of Buddhas birth.

Monks meditate on the temple grounds. This monk, on pilgrimage from the Kingdom of Thailand.

At the center of the complex pilgrims perform rituals at the base of a Bodhi tree. Buddha is said to have attained enlightenment under a Bodhi tree at a different location in India.

Inside the recently constructed shrine are the remains of the original temple building discovered by an archeologist in 1895.

At the center of the shrine , devotees offer prayers above the stone that is said to mark the exact birth place of Buddha.
